I don't recall if there has ever been a Jailbreak for an initial firmware release. Apple usually releases a x.1 or x.0.1 after an OS revision launch to fix any bugs reported or polish up a few rough edges. I think it's pretty safe to assume that we won't see a full untether until after an Apple update, no?

Well considering that iOS5 (5.0) is jailbroken already...I would say yes..there have been.

From the top of my Head.. 2.0 was JBed before the next version was released, can't remember the others ones

Sorry, I should have asked if there was a stable, untethered JB from DevTeam or the like.

Untethered /= unstable, the untethered JB is very stable, so are the apps that have been updated.

Regardless... the answer is still yes, it have been jailbreak for x.0 firmware before

No, 4.0.1 was released 7/15/10, JBme.com was released 8/01/10.

why does the link in your signature say you can jailbreak 4.0.0 using JBme.com?

Because you can jailbreak it on 4.0.0. One doesn't need to be on 4.0.1 to use JBme (2.0)
