Hello - I went for a run with my AW Series 4 today. It's the cellular version and as per usual I did not take my phone. I run every other day, and this hasn't been an issue ever. I also use airpods with it.

Today however the music cut out while running. i didn't get why. i tried to solve it while running and realised that if i took the airpods out, and put them back in, it was fine. then it happened again. I quickly fixed the issue this time by taking the airpods out and putting them back in. music with start after. same thing happened a third time.

Then i realised the issue although sounds like I'm making it up given how random it was:

- Everytime I LOOKED at my watch to see my speed (which wasn't great) a second later the Airpods would stop the music stayed on the watch though but with nothing playing out.
- the workout info because inaccurate
- after about 3km, the workout stopped on it's own.
- very choppy heart rate recorded
- choppy distance info recorded (the map shows many missing sections)

i decided to not care and continued to run but then the watch asked me if i was out on a run. so i said yes, because well i was.
- the watch showed time elapsed but no movement. it had started at 3 min into a run instead of from 0.
- no heart rate info available from the second recorded run.

THEN the watch shut down on its own whilst i was still running. No music.
I turned it back on after a minute

continued to run and recorded it to test it out.
- music and running worked fine.
- recorded workout (which was just 2-3 minutes didn't show a heart rate chart but the distance now was fine. No missing chunks of distance.

I'm not exactly a professional running or anything so missing an accurate workout isn't the end of the world, i'm just wondering what happened. Has this happened to anyone?
there was definately a connection with, me LOOKING AT MY WATCH and the music not going to the airpods. it's very weird. but the choppiness on the map started before this. so some glitch occured, i'm just wondering what.

Also a s4 LTE here and I have not experienced that. But I have experienced it become wonky at another occasion and needed a restart. Software has bugs and gets corruptet and need a restart. Whatever went wrong, might not have anything todo about your workout/airpods. So unless it happens again on regular basis, I would not worry about it.

Sounds like it might be a memory leak, which is where a program will use memory, and then not release it, and then request more memory, and not release it. The OS still has the memory assigned to the app, even though the app is not using most it. And the app will keep requesting more, because it doesn't realize what it already has.
especially the way everything just slowed down, and would hang for periods of time makes this sound right.
restarting usually clears it up.

it could have been a wonky reading coming out the heart rate or GPS, it could have been a scrambled bit in the music you were streaming, it probably crashed something in the background.

as significant said, unless it happens frequently, don't worry about it.

if it happens again in the next couple weeks, I'd try unpairing and re-pairing the watch, as it's possible a setting or something long-term got corrupted.

thanks everyone! not worried about it - i think it will sort itself out. I just find it was the most random glitch. just wanted to know more about it. Thank you for the info!
