On my crappy toshiba work computer it auto caps all the first letters of new sentences and also all the "I's".

it also makes it type "don't" without having to add the '

I would hope that my MBA can do that as well, does anyone know to turn that feature on if it has it?

if you can help, please make it as simple as possible, I am a complete dummy at stuff like this.

thank you

ETA I am mostly hoping it can do this when I type emails...

This feature is entirely software-dependent on the Mac side. Mac OS X does not have a system-wide feature that does this - so it's up to application developers to add it, if they so choose.

I don't think this is a toshiba or windows feature. MS Office does this, I'd suggest getting Office 2011 for mac - pretty dam good!
