... with one of the biggest tech companies in the entire world for a designer position.

Been coming on this forum to discuss technology, design, user interface, software, and everything in between since I was 12 years old on an iMac G3.

This would be a dream come true.

Thanks for being a great community, sharing my passion, and teaching me so much. I'll let you know how it goes.

It felt like less of an interview and more of a screening process - what skills do you have, are you familiar with these? How many years of experience? Can you do this? Can you do that? What are some examples? Etc.

It's funny that this thread came up I'll have my first in person interview on August 1st every other interview I've had for the last 15 years has been by phone.

My recommendation for phone interviews is to walk while taking it burns off the stress and helps you think better

Isn’t that a typical first interview? It is in my experience. Time to draft a thank you email, right? Good luck. Hope you the second interview.

I definitely have the experience and technical skills, the recruiter was very cordial and nice, but didn't leave much for discussion or questions. I am happy. Whatever happens, happens.

In that case, since this interview was with the talent recruiter then you have an excellent chance for a second with technical management. Best of luck going forward.

Depends if it's an internal or external recruiters. Or a headhunter. Internal recruiters and headhunters tend to know what a candidate needs to know or have experience with rather than an external recruiter.

This thread seems to have dropped off. Curious to know what happened regarding your job opportunity. Grateful if you give us a status report.

Hopefully he got the job, but you kind of assume what happened after he stopped updating the thread.

You may be correct. Seeing his his comments about a fellow poster an hour ago I would hope that this big company realized that he would not be an asset to the firm.

You are so hurt by a silly comment, little man.

Didn't get it - got a job at a smaller firm that I started three weeks ago. I'm ok with that for now - need more experience. A big tech firm is my ultimate goal, though.

And honestly, I'm terrible at interviews. I get incredibly nervous and it's one of my biggest weaknesses. I was excited to share the news here but also kind of honestly just ask for advice. I come off as extremely awkward during phone interviews, and I'm sure I did in some ways on this one too.

Well glad you got the job with the smaller firm. I'm sure once you get more experience better opportunities will come up!

Not sure if you are referring to him or me, but I think Northern Man had a point. I came off as pretentious here... I was just excited from having some opportunities in front of me after being unemployed since January.

I just noticed you are in St Paul. Are you working downtown?

I'm born and raised Saint Paul. Love the city, it's a hidden gem for a nice, quiet, urban life. The food scene there is so awesome right now. I moved to North Carolina for this new job a month ago, though.
