I have right now both the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X, and must sell one of them. I don't know which one I should be keeping! Gah I love both phones! I wish I could just keep them both and switch between them, but my little brother broke his iPhone...and it was a 5c, so it is time to give him an upgrade, his upgrade will be one of my phones, the one I chose not to keep. They're only going to pay me $300 for the device, but its family so it doesn't really matter....anywho...

Reasons I can come up with to keep the 8 Plus:
-A little bit better battery life. This is important to me as this phone is used for work a lot (remote work into client machines, servers, etc)
-Touch ID makes for faster and more accurate "Login" and Apple Pay.
-Traditional iPhone form factor feels more "Apple" than the iPhone X.

Reasons I can come up with to keep the iPhone X:
-"It's the Future of iPhones"
-That salivating OLED screen
-Face ID when it does work is more convenient than Touch ID.
-Smaller and much more pocketable than the 8 Plus

Negatives about the 8 Plus
-Older design (Could be a positive, see above)
-Much larger than the X, and heavier
-Newer apps will not take this screen into account (see what happened when the iPhone 5 came out and the 4S iPhones had terrible apps afterwards because things were crammed onto the screen)

Negatives about the iPhone X
-Battery life is bad
-Not ALL apps are updated for this design yet, leaving the OCD folks like myself going bonkers!
-Buggy in certain apps, especially YouTube where the Home Bar would appear on the side of the phone, and make it impossible to go home because even swiping it, it won't go home!
-Face ID doesn't ALWAYS work when waking up from bed.

Scratch that. Sell the 8 and keep the X. New iPhones come out in 2 months you can decide to stick with the X or upgrade.

Keep the one that you use. Sell the other.
Why did you settle on $300 for either one?
Ask for $200. You will sell faster, with less time to regret your decision. Then it will be done (until September when the new iPs are released  (Life goes on, don't sweat the small stuff)

Its all about personal taste but personally I'd sell the X. More resell value at the moment, and I prefer the 6/7/8 design over X design for many reasons.

I said keep the 8 plus and sell the X. Touch ID just works better for my preference but then again I am not you so go with your gut :)

Make a list of pros and cons of each device. The one with the most cons you sell.

It really depends what you appreciate between both iPhones in terms of 1.) form factor, 2.) technology and 3.)Overall comfortability using the X/8, being they both are different in terms of size.

I won’t suggest one or the other, as I think that’s up to you, but ask yourself those questions that I mentioned for considerations.

The X will have better resale, but no doubt your family member would also prefer the X over an 8 plus.

You will regret having an 8 plus rather than an x! The X is the new future of iPhones and whatever anyone says Face ID is brilliant it just works without thinking about it it’s like your phone has no security despite being more secure then Touch ID people are forgetting all the times Touch ID doesn’t work if your hands are cold a little bit sweaty or greasy. Ultimately they are looking for faults in a phone because they haven’t got it! Keep the X

Get rid of the X. I wouldn't want a phone drooling on me.

In all seriousness though, the X is the better phone in my opinion. I used a 7+ (jet black, nom) for a few months and the size just got to be too much.

Just returned my 8+ today after 1 week with it. got an x instead..so far i like the size and weight compared to the 8+
the screen is also very sharp. This one is a keeper

Personally I’d sell the X. I had one for a couple of weeks and didn’t like the long narrow screen. If it’s that narrow, I’d choose the 8, which is what I ended up doing. This year I’ll go for whichever phone has dual physical SIMs.

Why not advise your brother to just buy an SE? He may hate the bigger device size over his 5C. Or even get his 5C fixed for that $300?

If however he wants one of your phones as an upgrade instead, that’s a tough one. I would ask him not on here, see which one he really prefers.

I was in the same position a few months ago but only with my 7+ not the 8. I initially sold the X and kept my 7+ and immediately regretted it. I missed the screen, smaller form factor and gestures of the X. I ended up buying another X a few weeks later. Keep the X

The answer to your question has nothing to do with iPhones. You've got to learn to make these kind of decisions all by yourself. Life is full of them and nobody can answer them for you. Just you.
