I was trying to help out my girlfriend by upgrading her imac g3 500mhz from os 10.2.8 to 10.3 . The installer soon told me that I needed a firmware upgrade and quit, and restarted the computer. I then got stuck in a bit of a loop and had to use a paperclip to get the disk out. Now when the imac is started, for a couple of seconds a small icon of the os face (?) appears and flashes to a small icon of a folder with a question mark on it (that scared me) but then is seems to start up and run as normal! I've turned the computer on a couple of times now and it does exactly the same thing every time. This flashing image is worrying me, I've given up on the idea of installing os10.3 but have I damaged this imac? Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

You probably just need to go into system preferences, and unselect and reselect the boot volume.
