Have MacBook Perform Tasks While Closed?

Hello,

I am running my MacBook in clamshell mode (closed) while connected to my tv to use as a display. I'm having an issue because when I switch my tv input, the computer goes to sleep. Is there any way to force the MacBook to continue processing while closed? I'm actually in the process of digitizing my DVD collection and need the MacBook to continue scanning DVDs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
