I've had an iPod touch since about the time they were introduced and have been thinking about getting an iPhone for quite a while now. It doesn't help that most of the people I work with already have one, so I am more and more tempted every day.

One big question I have is what the scenario would be like if I were to buy a 3G iPhone now and then later this year a new model comes out. Assuming the new model would cost the same, would I be able to buy it for $199 by renewing my 2-year contract, or would I be forced to pay full price for the hardware? If it's going to mean saving several hundred dollars I'd rather wait a few months for the new model.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
