Have sony hard drive DV, new to MAC, file won't open?

looking for help with my DV cam, when I connect to my MAC it does not see any file as a video file. Do I need to down load something extra. They are QT files, mpeg. They open fine with windows.

What file extension does the MPEG video have? Typically, you can use MPEG Streamclip (it's free) to transcode the files to something edit-friendly like DV.

Have you tried importing it through imovie?

I would imagine that would be the best way to go about it, that way you could edit the files and then send it out to quicktime or youtube or whatever you feel like.

I tried imovie and it says I have no importable video files???? not sure what to do. the file ext is a .MPEG file.
