Have to pay almost $600 to get an iPhone 3G plan?

So I've wanted to get an iPhone 3G plan while porting a three line family plan to AT&T for the past two weeks. After calling AT&T here's what they've told me over the phone:

Three line family plan with one iPhone plan
-$130 or so after taxes for 700minute plan each month
-$130 for prorated
-$36+$26+$26 in activations
-$200 for iPhone 8GB

Total for the first month comes out to around $550 + there are taxes.

Does this sound right? Is there any way to drop the bill's overall price somehow?

Check with your company for FAN discount, and that's about all you can do.

Yeah it's right sadly, this happened to me yesterday because of the Billing Cycle and the day it was done. See you when you pay your Bill you always pay a moth ahead so those minutes and data are available so they have to charge you two months so you're caught up, sucks I know but thats at&t for ya, oh and I did get my Activation Fee waived , make them do the same

well it's not like you gotta pay $200 every month for your iPhone... same goes for the activation fees... they're both one time fee.

how do i go about them waiving it? do i call them up after they've activated my account? also, do the at&t stores offer free after rebate (or just free) phones like tmobile does? i see that they only offer free phones over internet, but i don't see how that would apply to me since i can't order an iphone over the internet, and from what i gather, they don't apply online promotions over the phone (and neither can i order iphone over phone). am i right?

they offer free phones, sure... but there are no discounts on iPhones other than the already subsidized 199/299 prices.

Also, i was only prorated for a couple days.. they didn't do an entire month for me.

Good luck.. they wouldn't do it for me. Unless it states it in your company discount.
