The iMac started with the revolutionary G3. Quite a nice design, then it turned into the iMac G4, another awesome design. With the introduction of the G5 iMac, we hit the form factor that just works, only small changes to case materials after that and it has remained basically unchanged for years (apart from small changes like screen size and aluminum instead of plastic)
The same thing occurred with the pro desktops (the Power Macs and Mac Pros) we start out as a revolutionary design (being the switch from beige boxes to the G3 B&W) and it evolves from there until it hits a point where it just works and stays there through the Mac Pro (once again apart from small changes)
The same with the iBook/MacBook, Mac Mini, and the PowerBook/MacBook Pro. (I can go into detail if you want)
Now with the iPhone design, the leaked parts look a lot like the iPhone 4/4s. There's no denying it. The basic shape is the same. This has me thinking, has the iPhone gone down the same road as the computers? It seems like it. And eventually I feel that the iPad and MacBook Air will follow.
Please note, I'm not complaining. I'm just sharing my thoughts of where we are in the evolution of the iPhone. You can argue that the iPhone parts are just leaks, which they are, but there is still a high chance of the parts being real. The design of the 4 is great. It just looks nice, no one can deny that
