I have made 2 pretty notable changes to my life since quarantine ended.

The first big one is my food habits. I used to eat fast food once a day and often times twice a day. After quarantine began back in March, I stopped eating out except for Starbucks coffee. It has helped me get in shape, and as much as I am tempted to get a number 1 from Chick fil a large with 1 Polynesian and 1 G&H, I've honestly gotten used to my new healthier diet and wouldn't want to lose the body I've worked so hard to develop these last several months.

The second major change is to dating. I've been staying in at my condo with my girlfriend rather than going out with her, except for when we go out of town. For example, instead of going to the movie theater, we watch Netflix on my couch. I prefer it that way anyway, and I think having dates at home are more fun than going out. Other than that, life has gone back to normal. I've been going to bars with my friends, celebrating birthdays at restaurants, flying out of town with my girlfriend, and living my life as it was before Covid.

My girlfriend has had to make more adjustments. She's in college, and came home because her classes went online. She's been staying with her parents, her sorority sisters in town, and me, rather than her condo on campus.

The only change I’ve made is wearing a useless homemade Mask (State mandate) & wearing gloves when I go out to public places like grocery stores. Other than that, the fam cooks & eats at home most days anyway & I’ve worked 5 days a week from day one of the pandemic (deemed necessary job) so little has changed for me.

Just the idiotic useless mask. Can’t wait to ditch that thing.

Haha! Nobody wears them except for those working in stores, and even they’re wearing them as “chin guards” with it pulled down below their mouth. Heck, the pharmacist today wasn’t wearing one at all when I went to get my medicines. At Starbucks they’ve been pretty consistent every day when I go. That’s about the only place.

Yeah, they're pretty silly. A virus would pass right through most anything short of a sealed +flow respirator and redirecting one's exhaled gasses has always been suspect reasoning at best.

The social stigma that took shape was entertaining.

I've heard the n95 do a good job of protecting but they're hard to get, and even then I heard that they should not be re-used because all the viruses and bacteria can get stuck on the mask. Even taking it off would be worrisome for me unless I was wearing gloves if in fact it's harboring all those germs right on my face.

The other masks I've heard are good for droplets, so like if someone sneezes on you smh lol

Haven't changed a thing beyond wearing a mask when shopping (state mandate) and I take the thing off whenever I can.

That is true & a fair point - the cloth masks do create a solid barrier for saliva & mucous to stick to during a sneeze so if one is a-symptomatic, you’re less likely to pass it on.

I do have n95 masks & those are very difficult to breathe through for me. I get light headed when wearing one for long periods of time but yes, they do a reasonably good job of protecting against viruses.

Still can’t wait to get back to real normal. Tshirt, sunglasses, flip flops, & margueritas.

That’s a good thing. People with kids who have their kids at home ALL DAY...yikes lol

Me ? Nope. My mates however, have stocked up on food,, but every time i see them, it's STILL there.. ..lol

I don't blame people for stocking up on things, just as log their gonna USE them.

I take it back, we did get more toilet rolls by the box. 24 pack of .... some guy was selling them cheap outside IGA, or my rents helped themselves..

Not needed really, because their now back in stock, and we haven't even gone thought half. lol

That's not their purpose, at least for non-medical use. It's to keep your respiratory droplets from escaping and infecting others if you are a carrier. That may be the reason that so many people don't wear them since they don't actually protect you, its for those around you That's very sad.

Question:

How does the a mask work to protect OTHERS, but it doesn’t protect YOU? Isn’t dude crossing you in the hallway wearing a similar mask? Couldn’t you just wear it inside out then to protect you???

I mean...if it doesn’t protect you...it’s not gonna protect anyone else if others are wearing similar kinds of masks...unless we just turn them all inside out to protect ourselves....which wouldn’t make a difference bc most people are wearing cloth ones anyway which I’m guessing can be worn either side....

I have a really good mask. It’s like a filter but not n95.

I like it bc I feel like it’s better than a cloth one, but won’t become a hub for millions of germs to collect on the front as they say the n95 ones do, which is why they say the n95 should not be re-used, from what I understand

Yes, I understand this as I acknowledged it in post 7.

It really is somewhat counter intuitive (most folks don’t think if a mask or filter in this way) but does create a barrier for your bodily fluids to stick to should you sneeze or cough and be A-symptomatic - essentially infected and contagious & out n about in society without symptoms.

Still don’t like them.

I’m still dating 20 year olds so no kids here. They definitely don’t want one at that age (and neither do I tbh)

When I’m too old for 20 year olds and start dating 30 year olds I guess that’s when I’ll have a kid, and look back on the good ol days when I was living the bachelor life *sigh*

Traffic was great for a bit over here but now it’s jam packed ugh. Avoiding a jam is back to the way it used to be. Taking back routes etc

Oh Yanno I did make another change. With everyone at home hunkered down in fear of the Covid, I started daily commutes through the city instead of the big I in absence of traffic.

still pretty decent but certainly more ppl on the road although I definitely think ppl forgot how to drive after a few months of not commuting daily.

Really? That’s crazy.

I hate doing the city bc of the red lights ugh

I don’t like them at all. Very inconvenient. And it’s not like you get used to it after 30 minutes. Its equally uncomfortable no matter how long you’re wearing it sadly lol

Yanno, with no one on the road I was whittling down what was normally a 30 minute+ commute through the city down to 15 minutes. I could time the lights perfectly + I literally had the roads to myself which was _very_eery.

but great for driving! :D

Yep. That's the difference between a medical and a consumer mask. The N95 mask is designed to protect those who are in close proximity to a Covid patient. They are very uncomfortable, make it hard to breathe, and cause skin problems as they have to be very tight.

Consumer masks are much more comfortable, but require mutual cooperation and trust. You wear the mask to protect others around you, and they wear them to protect you. Appropriate separation is required as consumer masks just keep you from spreading droplets 6 feet out, keeping them closer to the body. There may be a small element of protection, but nothing you should rely on.

Don't understand the inside/out question.

I will say this...coronavirus has created a great excuse for getting out of social events lol, and I’m sure many other people like me are using it as an excuse rather than “my dog ate my homework” haha

My ex has been trying to party with me for the last 3 weeks and finally I just told her that the virus is scary and I just want to play it safe.

Shes probably not too happy about it but hey I think it’s very reasonable.

Before corona, when she’d wanna hangout I’d have to say things like “I’m having a hard time with my dating life it’s been so crazy I just need time to myself” or things like that lol

So it’s not really an adjustment per se, but I think it’s really helped me in this case. I don’t think she can be mad at me personally. Just mad in general at the situation.

Conducting a lot more video chats with family and friends.

I am self conscious about video chats. The camera makes my face look odd shaped. My ex tried to FaceTime me at 2 AM the other night, I didn't answer. Then 30 minutes she tried again. I didn't answer. Then she texted me, and I wasn't sure if I should reply or not because if I do then it's like why didn't you answer FT? So I just ignored her texts till the morning and pretended like I was asleep.

These are the adjustments we're having to make, but not all of them are preferable.

I am going everywhere with pocket sanitizer. I am also keeping two spray and jelly sanitizers in my car.

I do woodworking and rc aeromodelling and since quarantine I've been building tons of stuff and spending money on tools and raw materials. Mask tie-in...I use some pretty nasty industrial epoxy and have always used a carbon-filter mask for that. But now that masks are so common I've starting using a paper mask more for when I'm sawing or sanding. I hate them, obviously, but I do feel good about treating my lungs better. Probably should have started years ago.

N95's are *tight* . . . most-probably very effective, but . . . damn, they are unavoidably uncomfortable ;/

The first big one is my food habits------------8<

I haven't eaten-out in over six months . . . still, just getting the goods to cook @home requires public exposure, but I can--at least--rest in my own space to enjoy the results ;)
