They put my old sim in the new phone, calls and texts work fine but I'm at work right now and cant sync til after work with my cpu....2 questions...a) there is no 3g icon on my phone right now and B)the internet/data does not work at all....is this normal with an unsynced phone?

Were you upgrading from a 3g?
I'm awaiting my 3GS' arrival and have some confusion about how to deal with upgrading, since I purchased it using my wife's line on my family plan. Can I just move the existing SIM to the new phone with no issues?
