Having an issue with scaling in Ai (SOLVED)

I am trying to scale an object down and every time I do it the stroke doesn't scale (obviously) and it closes off some of the design. I click the "scale stroke and effects" box and try again and some parts look like they are collapsing in on other parts. Is there a way to make the stroke part of the object and not have to worry about it? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind. I figured it out. This thread can be deleted if you'd like.
