Having Iphone trouble.

So I recently got a Iphone from craigslist, and I want to put all my music on it, but I have one problem. It won't let me because there is a app on it that apparently the guy before me was downloading but changed his mind. I want to delete it but when I try on the Iphone, it won't let me because there is no x on the right hand side of it. I was wondering if I should reset all settings, but I don't want to ruin it, since I payed quite a lot of money for it, but it's pretty much useless since the I can't add any apps or music on it. I just don't know what to do.

Have you tried syncing to iTunes on your desktop, deleting it on the desktop, then resyncing?

Restore the phone "as new" and wipe out all existence of the previous owner. When the phone is 100% on your account you won't have issues.
