I usually repair permissions/verify disk once on a while (if I'm bored and have nothing to do). However, just now, I reparied permissions (no problem) and verified disk, and this is what happened (never happened before)

What's going on here? Is it something serious? This has never happened to me before, and I don't really know what to do (but it says somehwere that I should restart on the Mac OS X Install disc?

Some insight would be appreciated! Thanks.

do not pass go
do not collect $200
and do not do anything else

untill you
BACK UP YOUR DATA

as for what your exact problem is
whenever the mac says something in 'red' it usually means something serious
are you covered by applecare & the likes?
if so- it is worth the phone call

or wait around the forums and see what the gang says.
i'm betting you will need to do a clean install -erase the whole stinkin HD...then load in system software

in case- backing everything up will be the first step.
