Having problems with apple wired keyboard/mouse

Every time I hit a key on the keyboard it affects my sound and even if I'm not near it the sound will either mute itself or turn back on. The same thing happen with the mouse if i click it sound either mutes or turn on. I have the mouse hooked up to the keyboard.
This is all hooked up to a aluminum macbook with external display attached.
