Hi guys, I have a Quad G5 2.5 in front of me with a fresh install of Leopard and some updates and I'm having some things that are odd to me but I need to know if they are normal or if the install has something wrong (even though it was just installed and some updates done).
-I connect to a network resource (Xserve) and open it to view the files and folders, then if I go onto the server (remotely) or if someone else who has access to the network share deletes a file, I still see it in my view. It seems not to refresh in real time. I have to switch views from folder to icon..etc to show the change. If I open and close the network share, then its updated as well. If this is normal, then is there any mod that can make it real time?
-If I copy a file (such as a jpeg) from the network resource to my local box, it still retains some permissions or something from the original resource because if I try and do anything with it, I have to authenticate the action (like if I want to copy it or delete it). This is not the case with a local file. I would assume that a file being copied over a network cannot retain its permissions because the local box will have different users and credentials so wouldnt it be more appropriate for it to assume the permissions of the local account on the computer? Unless again maybe something is not right with the install.
-related to the above, if I have a folder called 'test' and a file called A and I try and copy the file called A into the folder again, it will ask for authentication which I will enter, then it will say the file already exists, do I want to overwrite it and I say yes. It will then say I have no permission to complete the action. If I go into the folder and delete the file A (which will still ask for authentication) and then copy into the folder which is now empty, it will work fine - although it will still ask for permissions to copy into that folder.
...I will try and get a video of this tomorrow incase its not normal behavior. Any suggestions welcome.
