I purchased a macbook pro 17" about a week ago, It is covered under applecare. It has only been used for a couple days and I noticed recently that the internal microphone works perfectly under windows and whenever I am in the Mac OS it has problems.

In Garageband, skype, and steam any time I try to use the mic people on the other end hear very loud white noise. The only app that it has worked in is Imovie when I record a video clip from the isight camera. I notice in the sound system preferences whenever I start the applications up the input volume skyrockets.

Talking with applecare I now have a fresh install of mac os x and ilife, nothing else and the problem still persists. I have tried resetting the PROM, NV RAM, and the SMC to no avail.

Please help me out guys. I had to wait three weeks for this and I haven't had it for more then a couple of days I don't want to send it back in.
