Having this minor problem with my Western Digital hard disk

I keep having problems with my Western Digital hard disk.
This pop-up always appear when I am busy transferring things from my MacBook to the hard disk.

WD My Passport 0740 Media is in use and cannot be powered off.
Try quitting application and try again.

It gets on my nerves when this happens all the time.
How do I get about with this problem?
Much appreciated.
