having touble with alarms

I cant get the alarm to set properly. It seems a bit hit and miss with if it goes off.

If you set it then switch it off it doesnt work?
If you set it then sleep lock it sometimes works?
lastly it always works if i leave it on and test it while the display is showing.

:(so all in all its a bit crap coss i woke up late for work as i set my alarm for it this morning. anyone help?
