Having Trouble Keeping Preferences Set

:confused: I just got a powerbook g4 and I love the thing to death, but it doesn't want to retain my preferences. Every time i shut it down and boot it back up again, the damn thing returns to its old settings, even though I am the administrator and File Vault is set to OFF.

I am currently running Panther 10.3.9

Can anyone help me? This is really bumming me out on using macs.

I just started using macs by the way.

Have you tried to reset the PMU? Here are the instructions
