Hello all,

This feels like a very stupid question. I have two computers that connect to my home network wireless network. One has my itunes library on that we access on out apple TV. My other computer is my laptop and is where I convert my Blu Rays to digital files. I want to be able to convert my files on my laptop and then wirelessly move them from my laptop to the external hard drive on my other computer that has all my media on it.

However, when I go to "Sharing" on the itunes computer, I can't see my laptop anywhere even though they are both connected to the same network. I can get a network address for the files I want to access, but it asks me for username and password credentials that were never set up.

What am I missing here? Any pointers on how to do what i want to do? Thanks!

Each Mac will have at least one user account that you use to login. To access the other, you will need to provide the username and password of the account on the other Mac, even if you use the same user name and password.

I usually use the convention local\username to indicate the user account is local to the target machine.

On the machine that will share content, make sure you specify folders you want to share on the network. It could be the entire boot drive, a user folder, or the iTunes folder for example.

By "sharing" do you mean the Sharing settings of each Mac's System Preferences? On your laptop this needs to include your home folder so this will be seen by the other Mac, assuming your home folder contains the converted video files.
On the other Mac the Sharing settings could include the external drive, if you intend to send files to that external drive from the laptop.
Check Apple Support for advice about setting up sharing:
