I'm trying to update my wife's Apple Watch S4. Her iPhone is fulling updated, but when I try to update to WatchOS 9, I get a warning that the watch needs to be on the charged and charged to at least 50%. But the problem is that it is on the charger and fully charged, so any advice from anyone on what to do next?

Have you done the obvious like restarting both phone and watch?
Yeah, I have. I thought it might be a storage issue on the watch, but I thought that would be a different error message. I saw a suggestion somewhere to un-pair the watch, but I'm trying to make sure that doesn't wipe all the data from one or the other.

When you unpair your watch should automatically backup to iCloud beforehand which would allow you to restore from it. I'm assuming you have everything enabled in iCloud: health, fitness, messages etc.
