having trouble with MAME OS X

I am using 10.4.11 mac and MAME .135. After I decided what neo geo games I wanted I looked them up in the MAME "all" games list and downloaded them with the names being the same as how they appear in the list. I put them, in zip format, into the roms folder and ran an audit on all games. The "good" list remains blank. I checked several youtube videos as well as several posts on forums, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any ideas?

Romsets for mame change constantly. older versions of make are not compatible with current romsets, so they will show up as correct good working romsets.

Download SDLMame and get .143b, which is the highest version for PPC machines.
