HD 3870... unbearable fan speed (100%)

My HD 3870 just arrived and the fan speed is unbearable in OSX (haven't tried Windows but what's the point).

I did forget to install the Mac software before installing the card like the instructions said but I didn't read that and common sense says software goes after hardware installation.

Anyways, how can I fix this? Could the card be defective?

Well, first you install the software (if you haven't already
