I have a 2006 intel Mac Pro 1,1. Two 2.66ghz dual core xeons, 10GB of RAM, and now I just got a Sapphire HD 4830 I had sitting around working, upgraded from two 7300 GTs.

QE/CI seems to be functional, and it shows up in system info.

I used these kexts: http://www.hackintoshosx.com/files/file/2286-qe-ci-exotic-patch-lion-gm/

Only thing I don't get is boot screen. So my problem with upgrading past 10.7 before was I only had the 7300 GTs which I know won't work. Now though I'm pretty sure this card will be acceptable for upgrading my 1,1 to 10.8 or 10.9. But I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before upgrading, since there's lots of extra steps.

Is there precautions I should take before doing this? I'm still relatively new to customizing hardware with OS X and using kexts, etc. Will I need to install the kexts for 10.8 before I install it? Cause I'm not entirely sure I'll get display otherwise.

I can live with 10.7 if need be, but I figure why not upgrade. I also have an HD 7850 (PC card like the 4830) that I can swap the 4830 out for if need be, since that would be more likely to be supported, but it's overkill for PCI-E 1.0 only lane...

I'd even like to upgrade to 10.7.5 but I can't seem to find kexts for it and I don't want to just hope the ones I have still work.

I should add everything other than those kexts its completely retail, no custom bootloader or anything. I noticed that people seem to use them a lot though to get the boot screen to show with new graphics cards. I'll obviously look more into one before moving onto 10.8.

Considering I received this Mac Pro for free and already have the graphics upgraded with a card I had lying around, it seems worth the trouble so far.
