We want to get new iMacs for students to learn Final Cut Pro, Premiere, After Effects and possibly Maya.

Does anyone know if the lower end version with the lower end graphics card will work OK with this vs. getting the next model up? Are there any other advantages to getting the higher end one except the larger harddrive and the different graphic cards.

21.5-inch: 2.5GHz
2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
1920 x 1080 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
500GB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB

OR

21.5-inch: 2.7GHz
2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
1920 x 1080 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB

Thanks in advance!

the 6770M is a bit faster (maybe 10-15%), so any GPU acceleration that takes place will take advantage of this, but the 6750M should be fine, especially if you are just starting out.

That said, depending on how much the price difference is between the models you listed, it may be worth it. I would say if its less than $200 difference, go for the higher model because it has 2x the HDD space (HDD price are high due to flooding in Thailand), slightly faster CPU, and slightly faster GPU
