Hi,

I'm currently looking to upgrade the stock graphics card in the 2009 Mac Pro I recently bought (4,1) and I'm looking at the Radeon HD 7870 or the nVidia GTX 660. They both fit into my price range and as per the link below, both seem comparable :

My main requirement in a graphics card is the noise levels, but it looks like the 660 is only slightly quieter. I also game under Windows, so ideally if the card is relatively capable for more recent games, that would be good!

I'm also keen to know if a dual fan edition of the 7870 would be preferable, such as the PowerColor, and whether this would help with fan noise.

I have tried installing an XFX HD6870 that I had in my old Mac Pro 3,1, but this had excessively high fan speeds under OSX, even though Windows was fine!

All advice would be greatly appreciated, as I feel as though I'm going in circles at the moment!

Thanks,
Steve
