Can I use a 2011 15" MacBook Pro HD cable in a 2009 MacBook Pro 15"? They look the same and have the same J21 connector.

Not sure. The difference is SATA II vs SATA III.

http://www.powerbookmedic.com shows different part numbers, but your post does not indicate whether the MBPs were Early, Mid, or Late models so I just took a guess. You could go to the powerbookmedic site with the specific information about your MBPs to see what part numbers they show for the HD cables. I suspect the part numbers will be different, but that may not mean they would not work, but I would be wary. You could also call them or do a live a chat to ask your question. They are in the business of selling parts and doing repairs so they should have the knowledge needed.
