My external HD attached to my iMac died. With it, my iTunes library.
I need to update my iP4 but I want to sync it to my MBP now.
What will happen when I plug it into my MBP for the first time? There are no apps or music on it. I have the phone set to manually manage music and videos. Will it just save everything to my MBP? (contacts, apps, videos.. etc.) and create a new back-up file? Or will it want to set it up as new?
Thanks for any insight.

this is why you keep your itunes on your mac, and a back up on the hard drive, or vice versa, because it would be very rare both the mac and ex hard drive crash at the same time. in the case of mac you can almost bet your ex hard drive will crash first. so relying on that to keep all your stuff on was kinda silly

I also found the hard way you must not only need to backup your media folder but also your library folder. If you get those two you have a pretty good chance of everything staying the way it was.
