Hello --

I have a NewerTech MiniStack V3. This is FW800/400/usb2.0 HD + Hub.

I want to use the drive via FW 800 [now connected, works fine]

I also wanted to use it as a USB hub. I noticed that I had to plug in the USB 2.0 cable, and could not use it as a usb hub using just the FW800 connection [is this correct?]

Now that I have it hooked up to FW + Usb 2.0, the usb 2.0 hub is working, but I fear the drive itself is now only going to be accessed using 2.0 and not FW800.

Can someone help?

Thanks! MD

According to the user manual for your miniStack:

The miniStack v3 will automatically connect using the fastest possible
interface when you have multiple cables plugged into your computer.
The miniStack v3 will connect via eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400,
and USB 2.0, in that order.

Thus, if you have the F/W 800 cable plugged in and the USB 2.0 hub ports are working I would not worry about it. It should be using F/W 800 as the interface between the HD and your Mac.

However, if you want absolute confirmation on it you should ask Newertech themselves:

Thanks!

I took a look in disk utility and found that indeed the HD was using the FW.

Learning everyday!

thanks - MD
