Hi guys,

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for posting my question:

I would like to change the Macintosh HD icon but I cannot seem to be able to?Anyone knows how to do it?

I tried with CMD-I and then dragging the new icon where the current one is but it does not work....!

Help!

Thank you!
Emanuele

Nearly there with the Command-I, but not quite my friend. ;)

What you need to do is...

1. Select the icon you want to change your hard drive to.
2. Choose "Get Info" from the File Menu, or click command-I.
3. Click the icon in the upper left of the info window.
4. Choose "Copy" from the Edit menu (or type command-C).
5. Select your hard drive on the desktop and "Get Info" for it.
6. Click the icon in the upper left of the info window.
7. Select "Paste" (command-V) from the Edit Menu.

...and that should do the trick. :)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Nevermind ! I got it! I had to replace the little icon on the top left corner of the Inspector window, not the big one in the preview box!

:) Wonderful!

EDIT: Thank you Jaffa Cake! That explains it! :)

Yea, it took me a while to figure that out as well... the instructions that i found online months and months ago was never very clear.

Is it not possible to change the icon of the boot drive? I can't seem to change the icon of the hard drive I boot from.

I can change the icon on other hard drives.

Any and all of your drive icons can be changed using the same manner described in the above post.

Well, not on my install for some reason.

But I think I know why. In the Info for my boot drive, I only have "read" access. All my other drives give me full read/write access.

How can I change that?

I had exactly this problem but have fixed it....

As Warbrain said, the permissions need to be checked. In the bottom of my Get Info pane for Macintosh HD it said read only despite being logged in to an Admin account.

That may help you :)
