I have a new mac and love imovie. I use a canon HF200 HD video cam and the footage looks great in imovie. When I "publish"it to the media browser and then burn a DVD in iDVD the quality drops dramaticly. What am I doing wrong ? Is there a way to improve the quality?

isn't that because DVD has completely different resolution than HD ?

Video DVDs are in Standard Definition (SD - PAL or NTSC - 720 x 576 or 720 x 480), HD can have up to 1920 x 1080 pixel.

But with the right conversion and settings, HD can be brought to SD, as evident with most DVD releases, as movies are still made with high resolution media (film or any other HD medium).

better quality

Sorry I am somewhat of a rookie in this area
I know that the DVD will not be HD quality but I was trying to find the
best way to maximize it.
I didnt know iDVD had settings I will change it to professional
which setting is the best to send to the media browser?
I was using DVD R+
Is there anything else i can do?

What you are using to view your DVDs? Your complaint sounds like the lament of newbies who play their newly-minted DVDs in iDVD. iDVD is a DVD editor. It is not a viewer. It has a preview function who specific purpose is to aid the construction of the DVD. If you want to view your DVD, then use the MacOS X's built-in app DVD Player to play it.
