Hd iTunes content worth it?

I'm new to the iPad (3rd generation) and have a 720p television with Apple Tv-2. I plan on purchasing the season pass for Mad Men and was wondering if it's worth it to purchase the HD version for viewing on my iPad/TV? I've never really purchased HD content off iTunes, because I didn't notice much difference on my laptop. Will there be a discernible difference with the new iPads screen?
