Wondering if the iPad I got will end up being big enough.

Does anyone know what a typical size for an HD movie might be? And for standard def?

For me I have about:
274mb for roughly 43 min (tv show) in SD
817mb for roughly 43 min (tv show) in 720p
They are of the same show but different episodes though so it could vary a few mb in either direction. You can pretty much just double those numbers for a 1hr 26 min movie.

Visually it's noticeable but negligible to me on such a small screen. I would rather be able to hold more videos that I will watch only once and then delete than hold fewer videos at a higher definition.

But that's a personal choice.

This sounds about right.

I have a few different HD movies right now - 1080p videos look pretty unreal - but they take up a TON of space:
- Drive - 1:30 - 1080p - 3.9 GB
- Gladiator - 2:30 - 1080p - 5 GB

I also have a few SD movies on there - for example, the Back to the Future movies are each around 2 hours long - and take up a little under 2GB each.

IMO - Back to the Future looks pretty darn good on the Retina Screen - even in SD...
