HD not showing full capacity

I bought a new Seagate SSHD 4TB internal drive for my 2011 imac. When I mount it (via an external enclosure), it only shows 1.8TB. I've reformatted in disk utility and there's only one partition. OSX 10.9.5. Any ideas? Should I just send it back?

Check the specs on the external enclosure. Not all enclosures have a full 4TB capacity per drive. Some are limited to 2TB and some to 3TB drives.

Thanks for responding Drambuie. That's it - even though it's a dock it looks like it maxes out at 2TB. Thanks!
