Hey guys, I keep getting this message when I go to partition my new HDD. It gives me instructions, but I can't figure out why, and if I actually need to do that, seems like unnecessary work.

For the record I also have an external with a windows partition, is there some way I could use that to help? (I'm not really tech savvy.)

Thanks in advance.

basically, there are some segments of data that cannot be moved. maybe its best to try a defragment program, or move some files off of the OSX partition.

Thanks, gave me some options.

I'd still like to know from anyone if there are any other options. It still seems like an extreme amount of work for something that seems like it should be so simple. Thanks.

its extremely technical, but probably the easiest way to fix it is to create a time machine backup restore point - and then reinstall your OS using that backup. it will recopy everything on in a "fragmented" fashion, which most optimally stores the data in an iterative manner on the hard drive, instead of randomly.

worth a shot :)
