I have read the threads posted here in regards to this. However, my question is a bit different. Last night my girlfriends computer broke. We restarted it and it was flashing A broken apple and a question mark sign. So, I reinstalled Mac OS X software cd 1. I installed it so that her old system is still available as archive while making a new one so she did not lose all her files. I have now transfered all her files by flash drive to my computer from her old system.

So my question is, how do i go about clearing her old system? Should i just completely reinstall mac os x? both cd's? or can i just delete the old system?

If her files are backed up then you should reformat the hard drive using the install CDs. I would be careful. It sounds like that hard drive might be on the way out and could fail permanently without warning.
