hd pvr help

i just got a pvr to record xbox games and i hooked everything up and i cant get a signal from pvr to the monitor it was glitching up and displaying the signal i figured that it was my monitor was dvi input so now i tried it on the big screen and to avail still no signal but now i dont even have signal from the xbox to the pvr no idea what is going on any ideas?

You know, it might help if you gave the manufacturer and model number of the PVR.
