Does anyone know how to install a western digital caviar hard drive? I'm new to mac and i just put one in my powermac g5, but when i go to install osx is doesn't give me any volumes to select for installing the OS. My guess is that it needs an IDE jumper somewhere, but i don't know which pins to put it on.

usually the jumper settings are written on the top of the drive - no?

WD guide here

Easiest to set it to Cable Select

[edit] sorry, not used to thinking as advanced as G5, those are PATA settings - SATA is here

The documentation that came with the drive should show you how to set up the jumpers for slave, master, or cable select. No jumper could possibly mean cable select. What's your drive setup? Is this your only drive or do you have others. If you have others what are they used for?

Well i jut looked at the top of the drive and it said jumper 5 to 6 for sata. I did that, but is still isn't showing up during installation. I'ts just a single 500gb hard drive going into bank A.
