Hi, new to these forums & have not tinkered with Macs since OSX.
Things were going OK with my G4 until a few months ago.
I added an SATA card & HD on the G4.
Things went fine for a while, then I could not boot from the HD.
I booted from the CD & went to use Disk Utilies.
HD was named some long string of garbley-gook & I could not run any utilities.
All were grayed out.
After trying to reboot s few times disk disappeared!
Bought a new SATA card, no difference.
Bought a new SATA HD, no difference.
Returned both.
Now stuck trying to figure this out.
New disk utility program?

Anyone with any advice.

Thanks.

I would have tried resetting the PRAM. If that didn't work, I would have started up on the CD, selected the Start up Disk utility, and tried to select the drive there as the startup disk and then restarted.

I had a HD disappear on me once and it seems that the system just lost track of where it was. I started up off the CD, selected it as my startup drive, and everything was back to normal.
