I´m a little dissapointed with my 320GB 7200 rpm hard drive.
Start up time is approx 45 seconds (17" MBPU 2.93 GHZ), and I often get the rainbow coloured dot at the virtual tip of my mouse. zzzzzzzzzzz
Are Solid State discs, assuming the best available, really THAT much faster?
If so, I am seriously considering an upgrade, even though I have use for 320 GBs of space.

Have a go at AJA System Test: http://www.aja.com/ajashare/AJA_System_Test_v601.zip

It writes and reads a big file to your HDD and gives you the speed results.

My 465GB HDD with 5400 rpm can write and read with 70MB/s.

So yours should be a little bit faster.

Have you taken a look at Activity Monitor to see what process might hog up the CPU?

My system is freshly installed so my boot time is around 30 seconds right now, but it will rise up to 40-45 seconds in due time due to installing software and such.

That's why Mac OS X has the sleep function, so the notebook doesn't need to be switched off.

What about permissions?

Installed anything lately, which was around the time you began to experience the slower speed?

Yes the SSD is that much faster. My SSD(not the fastest available) boots in around 20-25 seconds. Safari opens instantly, Photoshop CS4 opens in 3-4 seconds, Word 2008 2-3 and so on ...

I guess I can do a full repair with OnyX. The system hasn´t really slowed down that much. I just noted some of the talks about SSDs - and the difference in speed is nothing short of spectacular. In other words: This seems to be the big leap I´ve been waiting for ...
