HD video performance on new Macbook?

How well will the new Macbook play 720P and 1080P files when connected to an external monitor/TV? Will the notebook run hot during playback?

Also, a deciding factor for my between Macbook and Pro is snow leopard performance, for those who tried the beta, is the 9400M enough to see a performance increase?
