So like many people I'm playing some HD videos ( mainly .264 files). I'm using a 2.4 ghz penryn MBP.

720p vids play fine of course- but 1080p vids are sluggish using quicktime, but play ok in VLC and MPlayer.

However I'm having a problem with audio in VLC. most of the HD vids I'm watching are in .mov format with DTS sound, and VLC isn't able to handle the audio for some reason, however if I give it MKV files with DTS audio it can play the audio. Any suggestions on this?

Also is there anything I can do to improve playback performance in quicktime? The vids I'm watching are pretty bit heavy- like 10 mbits/second. I use perian if this matters.
