Hello:
I recently tried adding a non-branded hd webcam for use with my video meetings, and the results have been lousy. Using Zoom, both the webcam and Facetime camera are recognized by the OS (system report) and the Zoom video settings, but the webcam freezes after aprox. 10 minutes. I have tried quitting all other apps when doing video, and have done the 'reset the SMC' procedure as well with no difference. I was beginning to believe I was suffering from a cheap camera ($40, #1 rated on Amazon), but a search of the Internet seems to show that this is a prevalent problem across many camera types. Yes, I have tried multiple USB ports: directly into my Mac Mini and also the Thunderbolt display. I am experiencing the same results when using Facetime.
This seems to be a very popular problem (and has been for a while now), but I can find no consensus solutions. Any thoughts or pointers to any sites that might have other options to try would be appreciated.
