HDD audible when booting Windows via Boot Camp?

Good evening, everyone.

Two days ago I had to install Windows XP via Boot Camp and while booting, I actually heard the HDD inside my MacBook 4,1 for the very first time. I immeadiately rebooted into OS X and while booting it was completely silent again.
Is there a difference of hardware-handling (not sure, whether this is the correct term) between OS X and Windows?
