Hi,

I recently got the infamous gray bar at bootime, ans so I tried some SUDO thing mentioned in another thread no luck, I tried the installdisc disk utility and did a repair, it failed and suggested reformatting and reinstalling the whole shebang. But then I read this to be a bad suggestion bc IF it is a HDD hardware failure, the problem seem away for awhile then it is bound to come back.

before contacting apple I try to get asured this is NOT a hardware failure but I am not convinced. Today I also downloaded 3rd party to see if it could help convince me theres a hardware error or not, though still uncertain.

Downloaded this http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php
It gave an green PASSED. but does that really gurantees the HD is fully okay?

(MACos install asis now do a 4-5min instead of the normal 30sec bootup), with the bar as said, and no repair seem to be able to fix it, it seem so weird if it is not a hardware failure?

Any clues people? Would appriciate anything that could help out!

To make things wordse I only got few more months of warante left so now is the time to make a decision.

EDIT the SMART software said something in its details: Airflow Temperature Celsius "Failed" "in the past" "45".

TO me that would mean the HDD are risk to have been overheated? Which I read is common cause for HDD failure and gray bar, so hardware failure is very possible yes?
