HDD corruption

Is there a way to repair hard drive without using Recovery HD?
Some context here: videocard in my iMac broke, I got it replaced and lost bootscreen (black until mac os loads), by some strange coincidence bootcamp tome got affected too (disappeared from the Startup Disk pane in System Preferences) so I tried to use bootcamp utility to remove it, it freezed, tome disappeared, hdd got corrupted.

I had an issue where after an attempt installing Windows through bootcamp, failed. I tried all of the options offered by disk utility but ended up having to do a fresh install. Luckily Time Machine saved the day.
