HDD Disk utility says ok but cant mount

Am trying to read a 320gb WD IDE HDD using a external drive housing

The iMAC began saying that this disk was not readable with this computer

The disk showed up in up in Disk Utility using the 'disk identifier name'

I ran disk utility 'repair' on the drive once, it said that it failed and i should back it up and erase the disk. I then ran it again and it succeeded.

My problem is that disk utility is saying that the drive appears to be ok...

but i cant mount the drive and i cant see it in finder. The only place i can see it is in disk utility and it is greyed out..

Have rebooted the iMAC and the Drive but i am still getting the same results.

Any ideas?

In disk Utility click on the HD and look for the Smart status in the lower part, what does it say?

I take it that is a bad thing..

Oops, my bad, it does not work on an external HD, so this means nothing.
